岩手県盛岡市出身の演歌・民謡歌手。父は民謡歌手の福田岩月。23歳から本格的に民謡を始め、2012年6月に第25回日本民謡フェスティバルでグランプリを受賞するなど数々のコンクールで優勝。呉服店で営業をしていたが脱サラし、2012年10月にキングレコードから「南部蝉しぐれ」でシングルデビューを果たす。同曲はオリコンの演歌チャートで1位となった。総合チャートでも最高位8位を記録した。2013年の第64回NHK紅白歌合戦に初出場し第55回日本レコード大賞では新人賞受賞を受賞した。 2014年2枚目のシングル「峠越え」を発表。自己最高のオリコン初登場6位を記録。また週間の売上枚数でも「南部蝉しぐれ」を上回り自己最高を記録した。そして2020年「第62回 日本レコード大賞」において最優秀歌唱賞を受賞した。 Enka/folk song singer from Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. His father is Gangetsu Fukuda, a folk song singer. He began singing folk songs in earnest at the age of 23, winning numerous competitions, including the Grand Prix at the 25th Japan Folk Song Festival in June 2012. Despite that he had a job at a kimono store, he left his job and made his debut with "Namnbu Semishigure" from King Records in October 2012.
