Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded in 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. Known for their fusion of powerful metal riffs and orchestral elements, they have become a cornerstone of the symphonic metal genre. Their debut album, *Enter* (1997), showcased a gothic metal style, but it was their second album, *Mother Earth* (2000), that catapulted them to fame with the hit single "Ice Queen," which topped the charts in the Netherlands and Belgium.The band solidified their international presence with *The Silent Force* (2004), featuring a full orchestra and choir, and *The Heart of Everything* (2007), which introduced them to a wider global audience. Their fifth album, *The Unforgiving* (2011), brought a fresh sound blending rock and pop influences, complemented by a comic book series and short films. *Hydra* (2014) expanded their versatility with collaborations featuring artists like Howard Jones and Tarja Turunen.In 2019, *Resist* modernized their symphonic sound with contemporary influences, while their most recent album, *Bleed Out* (2023), continues their musical evolution.
